Last week I hopped on a plane with my two besties and we took off to Geneva for the weekend.
ST and I grew up in Geneva and both take advantage of going back there regularly (we both need a chocolate-mountain-cheese fix every so often). AH decided to join us for the weekend.
We’d planned it so it landed on Swiss National Day (August 1st), which means Geneva comes alive with lakeside festivities, great food and wine and fireworks on Lac Léman.
ST and AH went back to S’s lovely lakeside house and I carried on up the mountain to our family chalet.
I woke up the next morning to clouds rising from the forest and the mountains in the distance. So good to be home.
The girls and I decided to meet in the picturesque town of Nyon for a quick drink, before hopping on the train to Geneva for a long leisurely lunch and a walk around the city.
ST & I took AH to our favourite pizzeria in Geneva, Molino. The food rivals any you’ll find in Italy, and the place is always buzzing with activity. We picked a local rosé and were all so hungry by the time the food came that I forgot to take any pictures, sorry!
Here are a few of the Jet d’Eau to make up for it…
The last week of July and the first week of August also host the Fêtes de Genève – a two week long party along the banks of Lac Léman filled with food stalls, fairground rides, music and pop up bars.
Not wanting AH to miss out on any of the fun we ducked into a Mexican / Hawaiian themed bar right next to the Jet D’eau and celebrated Saturday in Switzerland with a couple of cold coronas. Very Swiss….
Happy with our massive fountain fix, we headed back to ST’s to get ready for the evening. Fête Nationale Suisse is celebrated with a big fireworks display accompanied by classical music on the lake.
We headed to Riverside Café to catch up with old friends and get a prime firework watching spot.
We sat down with Aperol Spritz’s and waited for the sun to set and the fireworks to start.
It was a great night celebrating Switzerland. Most of Sunday was spent poolside accompanied by a Swiss National day BBQ.
I think it’s safe to say AH enjoyed her thoroughly Swiss weekend!
I left the girls at the pool and joined my parents at Promenthoux Plage to catch the last of the Sunday sun. More on this hidden Swiss gem tomorrow!
